Day 61: Still commited!

I have been quite busy lately because of the university entrance examinations. But I just wanted to inform that I'm still commited to this experiment and that I'm doing well :)

I have had some stomach problems, which I think are due to the huge amont of fats that I have been eating and that my stomach just isn't quite used to it. But it has started to get better lately.

I have also tried many new recepies and I have even taken some pictures of those.

These are paleo chocolate cereals. Very good!

And this is my new favourite, paleo bread. Love it!

And this is just an ordinary breakfast but it looks good, doesnt it? ;)

And I have also trained really hard after the camp we had a few weeks ago. And my competion season is beginning next week with olympic distace triathlon (1,5/40/10).

And this is me with my new wetsuite :D

Day 29: A month already??

Summarizing the results of the first month

So, it seems that 30 % of the experiment is already done. Yey! Today I was thinking to summarize, how this first month has affected me. The changes that people usually seem to have, when experimenting paleo, are considered with at least with vitality, mood, physical perfomance, body structure, weight and skin. And these are the issues that I will now consentrate, because I can't really tell yet if the diet has had any impact on my decease.

Lets take vitality and mood first.

Even if I might be suffering from hypothyroidism I haven't had any sympthoms like tiredness yet...  But I do have noticed that after starting with paleo and eating less carbs, I haven't had any after meal tiredness, which was very normal for me before. It has been very usefull to get rid of that because I'm currently reading for a university entrance examination. Before the diet I was really struggling with reading after meals... And what comes to my mood, I don't know if it is the diet or the spring or just life it self, but I have been in a much better mood than usually! Even my husband confirmed this! :D

I would really like to tell that my physical performance has enhanced enormously, but the truth is that I haven't noticed any change in that yet. I haven't made any spesific tests though. But when it comes to physical condition, one month is a really short time, so perhaps we well see some development during the next months. My body structure is also still the same. No huge muscles and fat amount is pretty much the same also. I haven't weight my self lately, but last time I did, I was 2,4 kg lighter than before the experiment. I could check my current weight tomorrow...

And then skin issues. These are quite personal things, but I promised to be honest and open, so...

As many other women, I too have had some amount of sellulite in my thights. (And yes, skinny persons can also have sellulite...) But I'm really happy to tell, that after this one month of paleo, the sellulite is almost totally gone! And I swear this is true! I think it might be the coconut oil, or at least I have heard that coconut might have that kind of influence. This was really an unexpected but very delightful surprise :D What I did of did expect though, but didn't happen, was some help to atopic rash. But unfortunately it hasn't disappeared or even deminished yet.

I have also heard that some people have gotten help to stomach or head aches, but I have never really suffered from those (more than randomly) so I can't at least yet tell if any change has happend.

Where do I go from here?

Today I started my final three months' training programme to Finntriahtlon competition. I'm having kind of an over effecient start because I'm going for a training camp right at the first weekend. But I can't wait for it really! Training camps are like holidays for me because I don't need to walk my dog, cook or anything like that :D just training, eating, sleeaaping and good company. It will be interesting again with this diet though, when I'm not at home and can't do all foods by my self... But I will do the best choices of the options that I have.

And for an ending to this post, I will add a springlike picture from my first bike ride this year :) it was really nice even if there was a lot of sand and rocks on the road at times.

Day 25: Making chocolate!

Writing this food and training diary has started to feel somewhat frustrating and time consuming, and that's why I have decided to change the style of this blog a little bit. I won't be writing food diary every day any longer ( I think you have already gotten pretty good idea of what I'm eating) and indstead I will focuse more on my feelings and experiences among paleo. I will  take photos and tell about the food that I'm eating, but I just don't find it necessary to report about every mouthfull. But I promise that I will be following the diet even if I won't be reporting about it! :)

So far I can say, that this diet has started to work for me. I don't feel at all tired or hungry and I absolutely love almost everything I eat! I'm also really happy that I don't need to eat every third or fourth hour anymore. I feel that now I really have time to focuse on everything else and then time to invest on those four or five meals. And what's really amazing is that I haven't even dreamed about sugary candies or stuff like that! I have even found myself recommeding this for other people O.o What is sad though is that people always seem to think that paleo must be very difficult to follow. But I'm telling you that it is NOT. It is very easy, easier than vegetarism I would say.

I'm also really happy, that paleo has brought some totally new incredients to my diet and I can already say that some of them are not leaving anymore! (I haven't made any decisions yet if I'm going to stick into this diet after the experiment or not.) I could mention for example coconut oil, almond pancakes, coconut milk and raw chocolate :D. I have also started to love the bacon breakfasts so much that propably I'm not going back to veggie either... It has also been really inspiring to notice that you can do all kind of great meals totally without dairy, grain or sugar. I have a long list of recipies, that I wan't to try, and I even decided to arrange a small paleo party on june, where I'm going to serve only paleo dishes. ^^

Today I made my own raw chocolate for the first time! I was so exited!! I even took some pictures of the project and I have to say that the result was really good! I even got some ideas how I could make different kind of confections next time I make these... Yey! :)

Day 15: 18% of the experiment completed!

I have now been on paleo diet for two weeks and so far I'm feeling quite the same as before the diet. I have been able to train normally and recovery from training has also been normal, as far as I have noticed. I have lost 2,4 kg, which doesn't worry me yet, but since I'm not over weight, I can't loose much more. I have to say that if you want to loose weight, paleo definitely does it! If it works for me (175 cm/62 kg) it will totally work for some one, who seriously has some extra kilos.

And about paleo in general I would still like to say, that it has been surprisingly easy! Many seem to think that it is very difficult to survive without any prosessed foods or without dairy or grain products, but I can assure you that it is a lot easier than you think. It just requires some planning ahead. And after you have gotten over your graving for sugar, there is no problems ar all with sticking to this diet.

Back to myself... Right now I feel though that I might be having a flu coming. :( Or then I have developed a pollen allergy or something... Well, we will se what happens. Today I however decided to rest in case this would go over.

On this week I probably won't train that much anyway because in addition to everything else goin on I'm going to this Resto 2013 competition to Lahti for a couple of days and we have a really tight schedule in there... So I won't propably have that much time to train. I will try to write my blog then also, but I won't promise anything.

I have announced to the organisers of the competition that I can't eat any dairy or grain products, but it will be interesting to see if there actually will be anything for me to eat.  I think I need to pack some nuts, veggies and fruits with me just in case :D

Day 11: Counting

I counted my calorie intake today and I ate about 2171 kcal. I think that it could be a little bit more even if for a normal woman I think 1800-2000 kcal is quite enough...

Here is a picture from my calculation. It can be my food diary today. ;)
